WIN OVER WAKE FOREST: With its 34-27 win over Wake Forest, snaps a 12-game losing streak to the Demon Deacons that dating back to the 2000 season … now leads the all-time series with Wake Forest by a 54-37-2 count … Duke improves to 4-1 on the year, marking the best five-game opening to a season since the 1994 squad started 5-0 … also matches the third-best five-game opening to a season since 1966 (5-0 in both 1988 & 1994; 4-1 in 1971 & 1974) … With consecutive victories over N.C. Central, Memphis & Wake Forest, Duke has now put together three three-game winning streaks under head coach David Cutcliffe (N.C. CB ROSS COCKRELL: Finished the day with six tackles and one PBU … moved into a tie for eighth place on Duke’s all-time PBU list (24), now tied with Quinton McCracken ... now has 10 PBUs over his last seven games dating back to 2011.
QB BRANDON CONNETTE: With his two-yard and four-yard rushing touchdowns, now has five for the season and 14 in his career to move into third place on the school’s all-time chart for rushing TDs by a QB, passing Leo Hart (13)
WR JAMISON CROWDER: Had five catches for 10 yards … has registered five or more pass receptions in all five games this season, matching the sixth-longest streak in Duke history
RB JELA DUNCAN: Rushed 11 times for a team-high 56 yards and one touchdown … caught three passes for 23 yards … rushing TD marked the first of his career.
DE JORDAN DEWALT-ONDIJO: Finished the day with two tackles, including one tackle for loss … also logged his first caused fumble of the season and second of his career.
K ROSS MARTIN: Scored 10 points on the day, kicking field 35 and 22-yard field goals along with four PATs … the 10 points push his season total to 45, marking the third-highest single-season total by a Duke rookie … pushed his season field goal total to eight, marking the third-highest single-season total in Duke history by a freshman … pushed his season PAT total to 21, marking the second-highest single-season total in Duke history by a freshman.
S DWAYNE NORMAN: Amassed a career-high 8 tackles in the win.
QB SEAN RENFREE: Completed 22-of-28 passes for 204 yards … moved into 20th place on the ACC’s all-time passing yardage chart … moved into ninth place on the ACC’s all-time pass completions chart … set Duke record for consecutive games with at least 10 pass completions with 29, eclipsing the previous standard of 28 set by Thaddeus Lewis … has now completed 20 or more passes in five consecutive games – matching his best streak set in 2011 against Boston College (41), Tulane (21), FIU (28), Florida State (26) & Wake Forest (28) … now thrown for 150 or more yards in 22 consecutive games and 27 of the last 29 games dating back to the beginning of the 2010 season … has now thrown for 200 or more yards in 23 career games to rank third in Duke history, trailing only Thaddeus Lewis (24) & Ben Bennett (25)
WR DESMOND SCOTT: Caught a career-high matching 11 passes for a career-high 134 yards … with his first catch of the afternoon, became the 16th player in Duke history to reach the 100-reception plateau … now has 110 career receptions … extended his streak of consecutive games with at least one pass reception to 31, marking the sixth-longest active streak in the nation and the fifth-longest streak in Duke history trailing Conner Vernon (38; active), Donovan Varner (37), Scottie Montgomery (35) & Randy Cuthbert (34) … pushed his streak of consecutive games with at least two catches to 13 … has now caught two or more passes in 27 games, marking the 12th-highest career total in Duke history
WR CONNER VERNON: Caught five passes for 62 yards to tie the ACC's all-time receptions record ... ties Clemson's Aaron Kelly with 232 career catches ... also moved into fourth place on the ACC's career receiving yards list with 3,317 yards, surpassing NC State's Jerricho Cotchery (3,119) ... extended his NCAA-leading streak of consecutive games with a reception to 40 ... extended his streak of consecutive games with at least two receptions to 20 games which ranks as the third longest in Duke history.
