DURHAM, N.C. - Former Blue Devil standout and 2001 National Player of the Year Shane Battier will be honored by the Take Charge Foundation at a fund-raising reception at the Angus Barn award-winning Wine Cellar in Raleigh on Monday, Oct. 22. Battier returns to the Triangle with the World Champion Miami Heat to face the Charlotte Bobcats in an exhibition game on Tuesday, October 23.

The Take Charge Foundation was established by Battier and his wife, Heidi, to provide resources for the development and education of at-risk youth and teens through a college scholarship program.

Through Take Charge, the Battiers seek to encourage and inspire a new generation of leaders through educational opportunities and the cultivation of effective leadership skills. Students chosen to receive four-year scholarships from the Take Charge Foundation have a desire to change the world, whether it be through participating in conservation efforts in Africa, advancing technological innovation related to electricity or helping underprivileged teens through social work. The Battiers not only provide scholarship funding for these students, but also mentoring in this hands-on foundation program.

You can join Shane and Support the Take Charge Foundation by simply calling 919-806-4279 or go to A contribution of $500 is suggested.  An RSVP and a minimum gift of $100 is required.
