CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The top-ranked Duke women's golf team closed the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational on Sunday with a two-over-par, 290, and moved up to finish fourth overall in the team standings at the 6,285-yard, par 72 Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
North Carolina won its second straight tournament with a 54-hole total of 872, while Mississippi (885), Baylor (885), Duke (887), Virginia (888), Arkansas (888), N.C. State (889), LSU (893), Florida (895) and Michigan State (900) rounded out the top 10 teams. The Blue Devils carded rounds of 296, 301 and 290 over the three days.
Top-ranked senior Lindy Duncan earned her third top-10 finish of the season as she completed the final round with an even-par, 72, and in a ninth-place tie with a 219. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native began her round with three consecutive uncharacteristic bogeys on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes. However, she was able to rebound with three birdies and no bogeys over her remaining 15 holes of play. Duncan has also turned in 16 straight top 10 finishes with her ninth place ledger on Sunday.
After recording a 78 in the second round on Saturday, junior Laetitia Beck rebounded with an even-par, 72, in the final round. Beck, who started her day on the seventh hole, carded her first of three birdies on the day on the par-four 11th hole, but followed with a bogey on the difficult par-three 12th. After recording a one-over par, 37, on the back-nine, the junior would register back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth holes followed by a bogey on the fifth. Beck, who is out of Caesarea, Israel, finished the tournament in a tie for 12th, with a four-over par, 220, three-day total.
Improving her score for a second consecutive day, Celine Boutier carded a final round even-par, 72. Boutier, who started play on the seventh hole, began her round at three-under par over her first nine holes of the day with birdies on eight, 13 and 14. However, after a four-putt double-bogey on No. 16 and bogey on No. 17, the freshman could not return to red numbers for the day as she finished her round with seven consecutive pars. The rookie from France finished in a tie for 19th with rounds of 76, 74 and 72 (222). She hit 13 fairways, 12 greens and had 29 putts on the day.
Starting her round on the difficult ninth hole, freshman Yi Xiao started slowly recording back-to-back bogeys on her first two holes of the day. Xiao, who is out of China, would add her third and final bogey of the round on the 15th-hole, but would come right back to record her lone birdie of the day on No. 16. The rookie finished her round with 10 straight pars to card a two-over par, 74, and finish tied for 47th with a 229. On the day, she hit 15 greens, 13 fairways and had 35 putts.
A product of Columbus, Ga., Stacey Kim carded a six-over par, 78, in her final round of the tournament. Starting her day on the eighth hole, Kim fought her way through a round that included two birdies, eight pars and eight bogeys. The senior from Columbus, Ga., finished the tournament in a tie for 52nd with a 54-hole total of 230. She hit 11 greens, 10 fairways and had 34 putts on the day.
The Blue Devils will return to action when they play in the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., from October 26-28.
