N.C. - Blue Devils Emmie Le Marchand and Paula Heimbach were two of 17
athletes from the Atlantic Coast Conference named to the 2012 All-ACC Field
Hockey team Wednesday. The two juniors have started every game this season for
the 22nd-ranked Blue Devils (7-10, 0-5 ACC), and are integral parts
of a Duke side that is slated to open ACC Tournament play on Thursday against No.
7 Maryland in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Le Marchand, a native of Worcester, England, was an All-ACC
selection last season in addition to earning third team All-America Honors,
first team Longstreth/NFHCA All-South Region accolades and All-ACC Academic honors.
The junior forward has tallied a team-high 11 goals this season to go along
with five assists. With her season, Le Marchand has moved into 13th place on
Duke’s individual career points list with 91 and has moved up into a tie for
11th place on the career goals list with 38.
Heimbach, a junior defender who earned her first career goal in
overtime on Oct. 19 to give Duke a 2-1 victory over California, has started 40
of the last 41 games for the Blue Devils dating back to her freshman season. A
Palm, Pa. native, Heimbach was part of a Duke defense that ranked second in the
ACC and eighth nationally in goals against average (1.2) last season, and continues
to provide a consistent presence on the back line this season.
