DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke rowing team raised over $6,000 for breast cancer research and awareness at the annual Row for the Cure event which the Blue Devils held last Tuesday on Duke’s West Campus quad.

The Blue Devils braved cold temperatures and windy conditions Tuesday afternoon and evening and walked away with $6,200 that will go directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Blue Devils set up ergs on the West Campus quad and rowed for six hours while also selling t-shirts and baked goods. A photo gallery of the event is available at the link below:

"Our captains organized a great campus event," head coach Robyn Horner said. "We sold 350 Row for the Cure tanks that were designed by senior JJ Englander. Senior Emily Theys baked Row for the Cure cupcakes, brownies and cookies that individuals received for a donation. Row for the Cure is a worthwhile charity that we're excited to partner with every year."

Duke’s Row for the Cure event is in its sixth year and has raised over $40,000 for breast cancer research and awareness during that time.

Row for the Cure, with the support of USRowing, is the rowing and water-sports community's crusade against breast cancer, raising over $1.1 million to benefit local affiliates of Komen for the Cure. Today, with events in 15 U.S. states and Germany, Row for the Cure has blossomed into a multi-sport event that includes athletes of all ages representing four sports; rowing, canoe/kayak, dragon boat and Native American paddling.
