DURHAM, N.C.-Coming off of a solid opening weekend at the Hokie Open, the Duke University wrestling team will test itself even further this weekend at the Michigan State Open Sunday, Nov. 11. The Blue Devils posted a win and a runner-up finish as well as eight overall wrestlers with winning records at the end of the day.

Michigan State Open Details
The Michigan State Open will be held Sunday, Nov. 11 at Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Mich.  The tournament will consist of both a freshman/sophomore division and an open division, which is widely considered as one of the largest and most prestigious pre-conference opens in the nation. Preliminary matches begin at 9 a.m. and will run until approximately 5:30 p.m., while the finals and medal matches are scheduled to take place between 6-8 p.m. Live brackets of the tournament will be posted at www.trackwrestling.com. Tickets can be purchased for $15 for adults and $5 for youth.

Hartmann Captures Hokie Open Title
Redshirt freshman Conner Hartmann brought home the 197-pound title at the Hokie Open, defeating three of the top five seeds en route to the title, including UNC rival Antonio Giorgio in the championship bout. The tournament win helped Hartmann earn ACC Co-Wrestler of the Week honors and put him into the top 30 of the WrestlingReport.com rankings.

Bencomo Moves into Polls
Redshirt senior Diego Bencomo finished in the runner-up spot at 184 pounds for his highest finish in the Hokie Open in his career. Bencomo's performance launched him into the polls, including 19th in the NWCA/AWN Coaches Poll.  The Phoenix native is 70-36 for his career and is aiming to make a return appearance at the NCAA Championships this season.

Young Wrestlers Make Debut
Overall, six Blue Devils made their debut in Duke singlets at the Hokie Open. Redshirt freshmen Marcus Cain, Andrew DeHart, Trey Adamson, Dylan Ryan, Hartmann and Brendan Walsh competed across six different weight classes and posted a combined 18-10 overall record with five of the six finishing with winning records. Cain and DeHart both went 4-2 at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively, while Adamson and Walsh were 3-2 from the respective 174-pound and heavyweight divisions.

Duke Road Warriors
The Blue Devils will spend a lot of time on the road for the first half of the season. Duke makes its home debut with a dual against Appalachian State Jan. 23. The Blue Devils will travel to five different states for before they wrestle in North Carolina. The schedule features a trip to Northwestern for a pair of dual matches as well as making the trek to the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Blue Devils host four dual matches this season, including ACC foes Maryland and North Carolina.

Wolfpack Open
A selection of wrestlers will compete unattached this weekend at the Wolfpack Open, Nov. 11 at Reynolds Coliseum. Live brackets will be available at trackwrestling.com with the matches beginning at 9 a.m.

Up Next
Duke travels to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Keystone Classic next. The event will be held Nov. 18 in The Palestra. The event will be hosted by Penn.
