DURHAM, N.C. - With the fall practice season winding down, the Blue Devils took time to promote the growth and development of Little League baseball in the Durham community by hosting the Duke Baseball Little League Coaches Clinic Wednesday evening at Jack Coombs Field.
First-year head coach Chris Pollard began the evening with a discussion on practice planning before the group split into four stations. Each Little League coach rotated to all four stations where the Blue Devils provided a presentation on different aspects of the game followed by a Q&A period.
The first station featured Pollard and Munger, who provided instruction on throwing mechanics and pitching. At station two, infielders Betts and La Bruna helped assistant coach Josh Jordan discuss infield play and the proper technique for receiving throws. The third station, led by assistant coach Andrew See and Rosenfeld, dealt with dynamic warm-ups and catching drills. Assistant coach Mark Hayes and D'Alessandro ran the fourth and final station, which centered on hitting and bunting.
The Blue Devils ended their official fall training period with a seven-game intrasquad series this week. Duke shifts to individual training sessions and time in the weight room as the Blue Devils continue to prepare for the start of the 2013 campaign. Duke opens the season February 15-17 at perennial power Florida.
