DURHAM, N.C. - Duke redshirt senior defensive end Kenny Anunike will return to the Blue Devil gridiron program for the 2013 season.  Anunike was granted a sixth season of eligibility by the NCAA this past March.

"I am excited about returning and taking this rare opportunity to play another year at Duke," Anunike said. "It is truly great to be a part of this new era of Duke Football. With Coach Cutcliffe, the staff, my teammates and our fans, I believe that coming back will be my contribution in helping take our program to new heights. Go Duke!"

A native of Galena, Ohio, Anunike has undergone four surgeries on his left knee since arriving at Duke in the summer of 2008.  He missed the entire 2008 season before playing in all 24 games during the 2009-10 campaigns.  In week four of the 2011 season against Tulane, he suffered a season-ending knee injury and received a medical hardship waiver from the ACC.

In 38 career games, Anunike has compiled 73 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 9.0 quarterback sacks, four quarterback pressures and three caused fumbles.  This season, he has 36 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss and a team-leading 5.0 quarterback sacks.  He currently ranks tied for eighth in the ACC in sacks per game.

Majoring in biological anthropology and anatomy, Anunike is scheduled to graduate from Duke next month.
