Last season, Duke posted an 18-8 victory over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg ... Sophomore Taylor Trimble registered a career-high five goals in last year's meeting between the two teams.

Scouting the Hokies Virginia Tech is coming off of back-to-back 10 win seasons for the first time in program history ... The Hokies concluded the 2012 campaign with a 10-7 record, highlighted by a 10-9 victory over then-No. 7 Virginia on April 7 ... Sophomore Megan Will returns for the Hokies after finishing second on the squad last season with 37 points and 30 goals ... Virginia Tech also returns senior goalkeeper Alex Gale, who posted a 16.15 goals against average and a .345 saves percentage a year ago.
Scouting the Blue Hose Presbyterian compiled an overall record of 3-16 in 2012 with a 1-6 ledger in league contests ... Junior Catherine Ellis returns after leading the team with 54 points and 48 goals last season ... The Blue Hose will be one of eight teams to compete in the inaugural season of women's lacrosse in the Big South Conference in 2013.
Season Openers Duke is 16-1 all-time in season openers ... The Blue Devils' lone loss in the first game of the season came in the program's inaugural 1996 season, a 12-7 defeat at the hands of Colgate on March 7, 1996.

Starters Lost Duke lost nine letterwinners and four starters from last year's team that reached the NCAA quarterfinals ... The departures include two of the Blue Devils' top point contributors from a season ago ... Kim Wenger was second on the 2012 squad in points (43), tied for second in goals (25) and ranked second in draw controls (50) while Emma Hamm was third in points (40), ranked second in assists (20) and led the team in draw controls (89) ... Duke must also replace starting goalkeeper Mollie Mackler, who finished her career with 382 saves and an 8.74 goals against average, as well as midfielder Kat Thomas, who was one of only seven Blue Devils to top both 100 points and 100 draw controls for a career.
In the Month of February Duke has played 42 games all-time in the second month of the year and is 37-5 all-time during the month ... The Blue Devils last lost a February contest in 2012 against then-No. 1 Northwestern.
vs. Unranked Opponents The Blue Devils are 98-11 all-time when facing unranked teams ... Duke has not lost to an unranked opponent since falling 14-13 in overtime to Towson on March 25, 1997 for a streak of 89 consecutive wins.
Against Ranked Opponents Since the 2008 season, Duke is 37-32 against ranked teams ... The Blue Devils have lost just five times to teams ranked outside the top 10 in the past five years ... Duke is slated to face eight teams currently ranked in the preseason top 20, including four of the top eight ... The 2012 season saw the Blue Devils compile a 6-7 ledger against ranked teams.
ACC History Duke is 37-25 all-time in ACC regular season games ... Over the past 10 seasons, Duke has gone 28-12 in ACC regular season games, second only to Maryland's mark of 30-10 in that span.
ACC Tournament The 2013 ACC Tournament will be held in Chapel Hill, N.C., April 25-28 ... The Blue Devils will be seeking their second ACC title in program history and first since 2005.

Point Production The Blue Devils return 64.4 percent of their point production from a season ago ... Sophomore Taylor Trimble is Duke's top returning scorer after totaling a team-high 28 goals in 2012 ... Classmate Kerrin Maurer led the Blue Devils in assists (24) and points (49) last season while junior Maddy Morrissey also returns after recording 35 points on 25 goals and 10 assists a year ago ... Dynamic Duo Returns Sophomores Kerrin Maurer and Taylor Trimble both return to the Duke offense in 2013 after leading the Blue Devils in several offensive categories last season ... Maurer led the squad in assists (24) and points (49) while Trimble was tops on the 2012 team with 28 goals ... The pair combined for 79 points on the season ... Maurer's 24 assists set a new mark in the program's freshmen record book, while her 49 points on the year were good for third on the freshmen single season chart ... Trimble finished fifth all-time among Duke freshmen with 28 goals.
Assists Leaders Duke ranked second in the ACC in assists per game during the 2012 season, averaging 5.2 helpers per contest ... Sophomore Kerrin Maurer returns after leading the team and coming in fourth in the league in that category last year with 24 assists on the season ... Junior Maddy Morrissey also broke into double figures in the assists column during the 2012 campaign with 10.
Devilish Defense Despite the loss of goalkeeper Mollie Mackler to graduation, several key members of Duke's defensive unit return in 2013 ... Junior Taylor Virden returns after earning second team All-South Region recognition last season ... Virden started all but one contest in 2012, totaling 29 draw controls, 23 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers ... Senior Lauren Martin is also back after recording 14 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers and five draw controls while starting 18 of 19 contests last season ... Sophomore Gabby Moise entered the starting lineup late last spring, notching four ground balls and six ground balls in eight games ... Moise received ACC Defensive Player of the Week recognition on April 10, 2012 after guiding the Blue Devils to a 12-11 victory over Boston College.
