DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University senior Lindy Duncan is one of nine women’s golfers to receive sponsor invitations on Thursday to the 2013 Kraft Nabisco Championship, which will be held April 4-7 in Rancho Mirage, Calif., at the Mission Hills Country Club.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Duncan along with Lydia Ko, Georgia Hall, Alison Lee, Doris Chen, Camilla Hedberg, Isabelle Lendl, Stephanie Meadow and Ashlan Ramsey received invitations.
“It is a major on the LPGA schedule, which raises the bar considerably,” said Duncan. “I have played in two U.S. Opens and gained a lot of experience. There are a lot of great memories from those two events. To receive an amateur invitation to a major is really special. I cannot wait.”
Duncan was the consensus National Player of the Year in 2011-12, after posting four victories, a 71.07 stroke average, 10 top 10 finishes and 10 rounds in the 60s. In the fall, Duncan registered a 71.60 stroke average and three top 10 finishes.
The Kraft Nabisco Championship will be Duncan’s fifth career LPGA Tournament she has played in as she competed in the 2011 and 2009 U.S. Open’s, 2012 Jamie Farr and the 2008 Ginn Open. She finished tied for 59th at the 2011 U.S. Open with rounds of 70, 78, 76 and 76 for a total of 16-over-par, 300.
Duke will open the 2013 spring campaign on Monday at the Northrop Grumman Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. The event will take place from Feb. 11-13.
