DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University freshman Alexis Jones earned the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week, after leading the sixth-ranked and top-seeded Blue Devil women’s basketball team to its eighth ACC Championship over the weekend.
Jones was selected the ACC Tournament MVP on Sunday, after averaging 17.7 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals in three games. A product of Irving, Texas, Jones notched a career-high 24 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists in the ACC title game against 15th-ranked North Carolina on Sunday.
Since All-America point guard Chelsea Gray was injured on Feb. 17, Jones is averaging 17.2 points, 6.2 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals over the last six contests. Jones became just the third freshman in league history to earn ACC Tournament MVP accolades.
The Blue Devils improved to 30-2 overall on the season, which marks their 10th 30-win season over the last 13 years. Duke will next await the NCAA Tournament selection show on Monday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m., on ESPN.
