DURHAM, N.C. - Senior Mason Plumlee was named a second team All-America by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) as announced by the organization Monday. Plumlee, honored as the USBWA District III Player of the Year last week, is averaging 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Plumlee has recorded 17 double-doubles this season and is one of 15 players in the NCAA averaging a double-double for the year. The Warsaw, Ind., native became the 31st player in ACC history to accumulate 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career and enters the NCAA Tournament tied for 24th in league history with 1,053 career rebounds. Plumlee has scored in double figures a team-high 29 times with eight 20-or-more-point outings and a pair of 30-or-more-point efforts.

"I felt like I was put in a good position this year to earn some individual accolades, and it was such a great season in college basketball, to be recognized as one of the top players means a lot," Plumlee said.

Michigan guard Trey Burke was named the USBWA National Player of the Year, while Miami's Jim Larranaga claimed Coach of the Year honors. Burke is joined on the first team by Victor Oladipo (Indiana), Doug McDermott (Creighton), Otto Porter (Georgetown) and Kelly Olynyk (Gonzaga).

Plumlee, the leading vote getter on the second team, is joined on the squad by Cody Zeller (Indiana), Ben McLemore (Kansas), Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State) and Jeff Withey (Kansas). Smart was also named National Freshman of the Year by the USBWA.

The 6-10 Plumlee becomes Duke's 63rd All-America honoree. Krzyzewski has now had 36 All-America selections (1st, 2nd or 3rd team - AP, NABC, Sporting News, UPI, USBWA), tops among active coaches. Seth Curry was named a second team Sporting News All-America early this season.
