AWENDAW, S.C. -- Junior Austin Cody, a native of North Charleston, S.C., fired a closing round 67 (-5) to pace Duke to four-under 284 Tuesday at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The final round charge spearheaded by Cody and senior Julian Suri led the Blue Devils to a three-shot victory over N.C. State.

“Austin [Cody] got on a role today which was huge and Julian [Suri] turned it around and got under par,” said head coach Jamie Green. “Anytime you can get under-par on a golf course like that where there aren’t a ton of under-par rounds you have a chance to compete for a title. It was really cool for Austin and great for our program to have him play so well here in his hometown.”

Duke finished the event with a 10-over 874 while securing its third tournament victory of the season and the 25th of head coach Jamie Green's career. N.C. State finished second at +13 followed by Wake Forest (+20, 884), Missouri (+24, 888) and LSU (+25, 889).

"I couldn’t be more happy and pleased with how the guys showed a high level of patience and persistence,” said Green. “That is what you had to do in this kind of weather, because there were going to be some times when you couldn’t control your golf ball. They hit a lot of solid golf shots, made great decisions and if something didn’t bounce their way they got over it quickly and moved on to the next shot.”

Logan Harrell (N.C. State) fired a final round 66 (-6) to grab individual medalist honors with a three-under 213. Cody posted a two-under 214 (73-74-67) to place second for the best finish of his career. Freshman Mads Soegaard and Albin Choi (N.C. State) were tied for third at one-under (215).

Cody opened play with a par on No. 1 before ripping off four straight birdies. He added birdies on No. 8 and No. 9 to make the turn at six-under. He ran into his only trouble of the day with back-to-back bogeys on No. 12 and No. 13. Cody recovered with a birdie on the par 3 14th hole before closing the day with four straight pars. Cody's 67 matches the low round of his career and Duke's best round this season.

“I felt good from the start and got off to a great start, which got my round going,” said Cody. “Unfortunately my parents couldn’t come today but it was nice to play well in front of friends and my grandparents. As a team, we played well both days. The conditions were brutal but we were all patient which helped us grind it out for 54 holes.”

Suri, who began play on No. 3, started slowly in the final round with two bogeys on his first three holes. He carded consecutive birdies on No. 9 and No. 10 to move back to even-par before adding birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to get to two-under. Following a bogey on No. 1, Suri finished with a par on No. 2 for a one-under 71. He now has nine-under par rounds on the season. Suri closed the tournament tied for 17th with a six-over 222.

Soegaard as well as senior Brinson Paolini and Adam Sumrall each fired one-over 73s in the final round. Soegaard collected four birdies, nine pars and five bogeys. With the tie for third finish, he now has a pair of top 5 finishes and three top 10s on the season.

“Mads is playing so consistently well and he kept giving himself opportunities in all three rounds,” added Green. “It was a terrific performance from start to finish.”

Paolini finished tied for 20th for his seventh top 20 showing of the year. He played steady throughout the final round and sat a one-under for a majority of the day before finishing with a pair of bogeys. The Virginia Beach, Va., native now has 24 career top 20 finishes.

Sumrall carded three birdies in the final round en route to a +1 73. He finished tied for 47th in the event with a 14-over 230.
