GREENSBORO, N.C. – The third-ranked Duke women’s golf team is set to begin play at the 2013 Bryan National Collegiate, hosted by UNC-Greensboro and Wake Forest at the Champions Course at Bryan Park March 29-31. The Blue Devils will compete against eight teams ranked in the top 25 of the most recent Golf World/WGCA rankings, including No. 5 North Carolina, No. 6 Florida, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 11 Vanderbilt, No. 15 Georgia, No. 17 N.C. State, No. 20 Virginia and No. 25 Michigan State.
The Blue Devils will be led by junior Laetitia Beck, who boasts a 73.7 stroke average on the year including four top-20 finishes. Beck, a native of Caesarea, Israel, is coming off a tied for eighth finish at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, where she carded consecutive even-par rounds of 72 to help the team to third-place finish. Beck is tied for the team-high with six even or under par rounds this season, and ranks second on the team in birdies made (38).
Freshman Celine Boutier enters the event with a 73.9 stroke average during her first campaign in Durham, highlighted by a tied for fifth finish at the Landfall Tradition in October where she carded a one-under par, 71 at the rain-shortened event. Boutier has tallied five par or better rounds this season.
Beck and Boutier will also be joined by seniors Stacey Kim and Courtney Ellenbogen and junior Alejandra Cangrejo, at the 54-hole event. Kim owns a 75.5 stroke average this season, while Cangrejo has recorded a 74.17 average, highlighted by top-20 finishes at the Northrop Grumman Challenge (T-15th, -9) and Allstate Sugar Bowl (T-20, +3). The Bryan National Collegiate will be the first event of the season for Ellenbogen.
Last season, the Blue Devils lost the Bryan National Collegiate in a playoff after tying Tennessee with a 54-hole total of 28-over par, 882. Senior Lindy Duncan claimed the individual title last season after carding rounds of 71, 71 and 70 for a four-under par, 212. Duncan, a PING NGCA National Player of the Year, will miss the event as she competes in the LPGA’s Kraft Nabisco Championship April 1-7.
The opening round of play is set to begin at the par 72, 6,386 yard Champions Course Friday, March 29 at 9:05 a.m. as the Blue Devils are paired with ACC counterparts North Carolina and Wake Forest, and will continue with 18-holes Saturday and Sunday. For live scoring, visit www.golfstat.com.
