DURHAM, N.C. -  After being crowned ACC Champions, the Duke women's golf team will find out its regional competition site Monday, April 29, at 9 p.m.  Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Lindy Duncan to learn more about the Fort Laurderdale, Fla., native.

GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
Lindy Duncan:
My proudest moment would probably be winning an ACC championship individually and as a team last year. It was a really big moment for me and for the team. I had a five shot lead going into the last day, and I felt like people expected me to win, so there was some pressure. The last day was a day that I will remember for a lot of reasons, but I was really calm and focused and I try to draw on that when I am struggling.

GoDuke.com: What is the most misunderstood thing about your sport?
LD:
Well I think it is really unfortunate when people say that it’s not a sport, but I don’t hear that as much anymore. Especially with Tiger [Woods] and a lot of the guys are in such great physical shape, so I think people are respecting it a lot more. Also, that it’s not a lot of work. It is probably one of the most time consuming games out there. A round of golf takes five to six hours, so it’s very time consuming.

GoDuke.com: What’s your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete?
LD:
There are so many things, but just the ability to go to a school like Duke, play for the golf team, and hopefully go and play professionally is just an opportunity that I feel is once in a lifetime. After my final tournament, I am planning to go professional and attempt to qualify for the LPGA the following year.

GoDuke.com: Any words of wisdom for the freshman?
LD: Enjoy it as much as you can because it does go by really fast. I’ve talked to a lot of the girls who have graduated from the team, and they all miss it a lot, so try to just enjoy it as much as you can.

GoDuke.com: How’d you get into golf?
LD: I started playing when I was about nine. My dad got me into it, and I just started to really love competing. I always liked to play in tournaments and started getting really serious about it when I was 13.  I was homeschooled for a couple of years to really try to get my game better to get into college. Since being in college, I realized just how much my passion for it has grown and how I really want to make it a profession.

GoDuke.com: If you could have played another sport, what would you have played?
LD: I stopped playing other sports pretty early, but my family is really into sports. Probably something individual, so maybe tennis.

GoDuke.com: What was your favorite food when you were a child?
LD:
I would say really good Italian food like chicken parmesan and pizza definitely.  Also, a really good steak. I like meat a lot, and that hasn’t changed.

GoDuke.com: Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
LD: I would say that my parents for sure. I mean without them I wouldn’t be here and they’ve just supported me so much and done everything they could have possibly done to give me all the opportunities I have, so it’s 100% them.

GoDuke.com: If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
LD: I would probably give it all to my parents. I don’t spend a lot of money so I’d probably just help them. Maybe buy my sister a new car.

GoDuke.com: If you could be a superhero, what would your power be?
LD: I would want to fly. I’ve always just kind of liked flying in airplanes or anything like that and I do dream about flying a lot, so maybe there’s something there.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any hidden talents?
LD:
I am somewhat musical. I did grow up playing the piano. I quit because of sports, but I taught myself to play the guitar and I really like music. I think that’s something that I wish I had more time for because I think it’s really calming and it’s something to totally get yourself away from anything that you’re worried about or focused on.

GoDuke.com: What is one possession you can’t live without?
LD: Probably my phone because I’m on it all the time; texting, emails, scheduling.

GoDuke.com: Anything on the IPod that might be embarrassing?
LD:
Yeah, there is a lot of classical music on there, but I’m not that embarrassed by it. I just think that other people would be, but I really like classical piano.

GoDuke.com: What’s your favorite spot on campus?
LD: The Wa [Washington] Duke golf course and the restaurant, for sure, because it’s a really cool environment. There’s outside seating and it’s got this nice view of the golf course. If you haven’t gone, you should definitely go. Also, I like the practice area. We have our own little practice area that’s really cool.
