DURHAM, N.C. - The five members of the 15th-ranked Duke women’s tennis team earned Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athletes of the Week honors after two gritty performances in the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament, topping No. 37 Ole Miss and No. 17 Texas Tech May 11-12 to advance to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16.

Overcoming a season filled with adversity, the Blue Devils advanced to the Round of 16 for the 21st time in the previous 25 seasons. On Saturday, May 11, Duke cruised past Ole Miss, 4-1, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, conceding only one point after forfeiting a match on court six. The Blue Devils returned to the courts Sunday to take on host Texas Tech, where the squad once again showed determination and belief, coming back from a 2-3 deficit to edge the Lady Raiders, 4-3, in front of a hostile crowd at the McLeod Tennis Center. In the match, juniors Hanna Mar and Marianne Jodoin both dropped first sets in their singles matches, but rallied to claim thrilling three-set victories to propel the Blue Devils into the Round of 16 for the sixth consecutive season.

Duke is slated to face top-seeded Florida May 17 at 10 a.m. in Urbana, Ill., for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals. The two teams met earlier this season in Durham, N.C., when Duke swept the Gators for the first time in program history.
