DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke defensive line standout Vince Oghobaase, a member of the Blue Devil staff for the past two years, will depart his alma mater after accepting a graduate assistant coaching position at Ohio State University.

“First off, congratulations to Vince and we wish him nothing but the best,” Duke head coach David Cutcliffe.  “Vince is a very talented young coach with a bright future and he will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on young men while in this profession.  It’s been a pleasure to watch him grow up with us here at Duke.  We certainly appreciate contributions to our program – both as a student-athlete and as a staff member; he will be missed.”

Oghobaase spent the 2011 season as staff assistant in the football relations department before shifting into a graduate assistant coaching role in 2012.  Working primarily with the defensive line last year, he helped the Blue Devils to the program’s first bowl game appearance since 1994.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time at Duke as a player and coach,” said Oghobaase.  “Coach Cutcliffe is a phenomenal man, mentor and football coach and I am forever grateful to him for what he has done for both me and the Duke football program. He provided me with my first opportunity as a young coach which has groomed and manicured me into the man I am in today. I will forever bleed Duke blue and will always be an avid supporter of Coach Cutcliffe and Duke football.”

A product of Houston, Texas, Oghobaase lettered four seasons (2006-07-08-09) at Duke, seeing action in 44 career games while compiling 165 tackles, 36.5 tackles for loss and 14.0 quarterback sacks.  He finished his career ranking among Duke’s all-time leaders in both quarterback sacks and tackles for loss.

A Freshman All-America selection in 2006, Oghobaase twice garnered honorable mention All-ACC accolades (2008-09) and received third team All-America honors from Sporting News in 2009.  Prior to his senior season, Oghobaase, who served as a team captain in 2009, was named to the Watch List for the prestigious Lott Trophy, an honor presented annually to the top defensive player in the country who has the biggest IMPACT (Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community & Tenacity) on his respective team both on and off the field.

After graduating from Duke in 2010 with a degree in sociology, Oghobaase signed a free agent contract with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and later played with the Hartford Colonials in the United Football League.  He also spent time on the Washington Redskins’ practice squad in 2010.
