DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Blazing and sophomore midfielder Aileen Johnson have been named to USA Field Hockey’s 18-player roster for the 2013 Under-21 Junior World Cup, as announced by head coach Steve Jennings Friday, June 28. Both Blue Devil players, along with Duke head coach Pam Bustin, who will serve as an assistant coach with the national team, will represent the United States at the Junior World Cup July 27-Aug. 4 in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

Blazing and Johnson were selected to the U.S. U-21 national squad following three days of action at the Junior National Camp, which was held June 26-28 on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. The two were among 18 players named to the final roster from a group of 34 athletes who were invited to the Junior National Camp.

A goalkeeper from Chapel Hill, N.C., Blazing totaled 51 saves and posted a 1.99 goals against average in 13 games for the Blue Devils in 2012. She helped the U.S. qualify for the Junior World Cup last fall with a third-place finish at the Junior Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

A midfielder from Oceanport, N.J., Johnson started 12 games for Duke last season, finishing the fall with three points. She also represented the United States at the 2012 Junior Pan American Games.

The Junior World Cup features 16 teams split into four pools of four teams each. Following pool play, teams will either move into a placement round for the bottom eight finishers or advance to the quarterfinal, semi-final and final round.

The U.S. has been placed in Pool A, featuring the Netherlands, Korea and Ghana. Pool B includes Argentina, China, South Africa and Canada. Pool C is made up of New Zealand, Australia, India and Russia and Pool D features England, Germany, Belgium and Spain.

The U.S. will open pool play at the Junior World Cup against Korea Saturday, July 27, followed by the Netherlands Sunday, July 28. The U.S. will then close out pool play against Ghana Tuesday, July 30. The quarterfinals will be played Thursday, Aug. 1, the semi-finals on Friday, Aug. 2 and the gold and bronze medal match on Sunday, Aug. 4.
