DURHAM, N.C. – Duke assistant rowing coach Kathryn Hagglund was promoted to recruiting coordinator Monday, head coach Robyn Horner announced.
Hagglund enters her third year as an assistant coach on the Duke staff. She previously oversaw Duke’s novice program and assisted with recruiting student-athletes. She has been elevated to the varsity assistant position and will assume the recruiting coordinator duties from associate head coach Jim Lister, who will join the Syracuse women’s rowing program as an assistant coach.
“Kathryn has an amazing eye for the stroke and is an excellent teacher,” Horner said. “She will be a huge asset with the varsity group. She also shows the passion and organization to take over as the recruiting coordinator. Kathryn will have a pivotal impact on DWR.”
A native of London, Ontario, Hagglund came to Duke after earning 2011 Big East Coaching Staff of the Year honors as a graduate assistant at her alma mater, Louisville. That season, Hagglund helped lead the Cardinals to a second-place finish in the third varsity eight and second overall team finish at the Big East Championships.
Hagglund served as a graduate assistant at Louisville in 2010 and 2011 following a one-year stint in 2008-09 as the men’s and women’s rowing coach at St. Lawrence University. At St. Lawrence, she was part of a staff that earned 2009 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year honors after helping the Saints receive a bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships.
Hagglund holds a bachelor's degree ('08) in Exercise Science with a minor in Community Health and a master's degree ('11) in Exercise Physiology, both from Louisville.
