DURHAM, N.C. -- Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Blazing was named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the 13th-ranked Duke field hockey team to a 2-0 weekend, including a 3-2 overtime shootout win over undefeated and top-ranked North Carolina Friday evening in Chapel Hill.

Behind Blazing’s play the Blue Devils defeated their conference rival for the first time since 2006 while handing the Tar Heels their first ACC regular season loss in three years. The Durham, N.C., native totaled 22 saves and came up with a critical stop on North Carolina’s fourth shootout attempt to send Duke to the win in its ACC opener.

Blazing also tallied four saves Sunday in a non-conference victory over Longwood, giving her a 1.14 goals against average for the season to go with a .833 save percentage. She currently ranks second in the nation in save percentage while leading the ACC in saves, saves per game and save percentage. She was also selected the ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week for her performance.

Blazing and the Blue Devils return to action Friday, Oct. 4 in a 6 p.m. meeting with California at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
