PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Duke University sophomore Beatrice Capra won her fourth straight singles match at the Riviera/ITA All-American on her way to advancing to the final 16 of the main draw at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Capra, who is out of Ellicott City, Md., registered a 6-2, 6-4 victory over 21st-ranked Natalie Beazant of Rice on Wednesday and will face 12th-ranked Petra Niedermayerova of Kansas State on Friday in the final 16. The match will begin at 1:45 p.m.
In her first action of the Riviera/ITA All-American, senior Hanna Mar went up against sixth-ranked Emma Burgic of Baylor in the round of 32. Mar, a native of Burr Ridge, Ill., lost 5-7, 2-6. In the singles consolation bracket, Mar will next go up against 29th-ranked Lorraine Guillermo of Pepperdine
Duke’s doubles tandem of Ester Goldfeld and Annie Mulholland collected an 8-7 (7-2) win over 14th-ranked Li Xi and Stephanie Nauta of Virginia in the first round of the main draw. Goldfeld/Mulholland then went up against Texas Tech’s ninth-ranked Kenna Kilgo and Samantha Adams in their second match of the day. The Duke duo battled hard but fell, 8-6.
Friday’s single action features the final 16 and elite eight matches.
