DURHAM, N.C. – A number of former Duke basketball players are beginning to round into mid-season form two weeks into the 2013-14 NBA regular season. Kyrie Irving and Carlos Boozer each lead their respective teams in scoring at the start of the season.
Shane Battier Forward - Miami Heat Drafted: 1st Round (6th pick) by the Memphis Grizzlies (2001) 2013-14 Stats: 7 games, 4.9 PPG, 1.9 RPG, 1.0 APG, 0.3 SPG, 0.4 BPG Over his last five games, Battier has seen his minutes steadily increase, recording 27 minutes in his most recent appearance against the Boston Celtics. Battier is averaging over four field goal attempts a game, with a .400 field goal percentage.
Elton Brand Forward - Atlanta Hawks Drafted: 1st Round (1st pick) by the Chicago Bulls (1999) 2013-14 Stats: 5 games, 3.2 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 0.4 APG, 0.0 SPG, 0.6 BPG After not appearing in two games for the Hawks, Brand returned to action, scoring six points on 2-of-5 shooting against the Charlotte Bobcats Nov. 11. Carlos Boozer Forward - Chicago Bulls Drafted: 2nd Round (35th pick) by the Cleveland Cavaliers (2002) 2013-14 Stats: 6 games, 18.0 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 2.3 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.7 BPG Boozer continues to put up solid numbers for the Chicago Bulls, averaging 15.4 points per game over his past five games, including a 22-point effort against the Philadelphia 76ers Nov. 2 and a 17-point game in his most recent appearance. Boozer also recorded two double-doubles in his last five games, hauling in 10 rebounds against the 76ers Nov. 2 and collecting 10 boards against the Utah Jazz Nov. 8. The power forward owns a .603 field goal percentage from the floor.
Luol Deng Forward - Chicago Bulls Drafted: 1st Round (7th pick) by the Phoenix Suns (2004) 2013-14 Stats: 6 games, 14.8 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 4.5 APG, 1.8 SPG, 0.0 BPG After scoring just four points in the season opener, Deng has averaged 17 points over the past five games. Deng also recorded a double-double Nov. 8 against the Utah Jazz, after scoring 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting and collecting 11 rebounds. The small forward is averaging over two more assists per game this season than his career average.
Mike Dunleavy Forward - Chicago Bulls Drafted: 1st Round (3rd pick) by the Golden State Warriors (2002) 2013-14 Stats: 6 game, 7.8 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 1.2 APG, 0.2 SPG, 0.0 BPG With his former coach and team in attendance at the United Center in Chicago, Ill., Dunleavy scored 10 fourth-quarter points to secure the win for the Chicago Bulls Nov. 11. The scoring spurt marked the first time this season that Dunleavy reached double-digit points, after the small forward recorded 15 points in 24 minutes of action. Dunleavy shot 4-of-6 from the field, including a 2-of-3 effort from beyond the three-point line.

Kyrie Irving Guard - Cleveland Cavaliers Drafted: 1st Round (1st pick) by the Cleveland Cavaliers (2011) 2013-14 Stats: 8 game, 19.4 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 7.5 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.3 BPG Irving played 48 minutes in a double-overtime win against the 76ers in Cleveland, Ohio. Irving converted on 15 of his 33 attempts to score 39 points. The point guard also dished 12 assists for his first double-double of the season. Irving is averaging nearly two assists per game more this season than his career average of 5.8 APG.
Josh McRoberts Forward - Charlotte Bobcats Drafted: 2nd Round (37th pick) by the Portland Trail Blazers (2007) 2013-14 Stats: 7 game, 9.0 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 4.1 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.4 BPG McRoberts saw his highest scoring output of the season against the Atlanta Hawks. Shooting 7-of-13 from the field, McRoberts netted 19 points, leading all Bobcats in scoring. McRoberts also led all Bobcats in assists, with seven.
Mason Plumlee Center - Brooklyn Nets Drafted: 1st Round (22nd pick) by the Brooklyn Nets (2013) 2013-14 Stats: 3 games, 4.3 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 0.0 APG, 0.0 SPG, 0.0 BPG Plumlee entered the game against the Orlando Magic, which marked the power forward’s first regular season action of his NBA career. Plumlee scored two points on 1-of-1 shooting in three minutes of action in his first game. Two nights later, Plumlee saw considerably more time, playing 17 minutes and hauling in four rebounds. In his most recent game, Plumlee shot 3-of-5 from the floor and brought down three rebounds in 16 minutes of play.
