DURHAM, N.C. – Fifth-ranked and fourth-seeded Duke (15-6, 3-3 ACC) downed No. 16 New Hampshire 6-1 in the NCAA First Round to set up a quarterfinal meeting with No. 10 Massachusetts Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. The advancing team will move on to the national semifinals Friday, Nov. 22 in Norfolk, Va.
UMass Series History Sunday’s NCAA quarterfinal contest marks just the third all-time meeting between Duke and the Minutewomen with the series tied, 1-1 … The two schools last faced off in 1999 when the Blue Devils earned a 2-1 regular season victory in Durham … Duke and Massachusetts have never met in the postseason.
Scouting the Minutewomen Tenth-ranked Massachusetts (19-4) upset seventh-ranked Virginia 4-3 in overtime Saturday afternoon in Durham to earn a spot in the NCAA quarterfinals … Charlotte Verelst fired the game-winning goal with just over four minutes remaining in the first overtime period … The Minutewomen are winners of 12 straight games heading into Sunday’s matchup and are led offensively by Brooke Sabia who has 39 points (19g, 1a) … In goal, Sam Carlino is 19-4 with a 1.37 goals against average and a .723 save percentage.

In goal, redshirt sophomore Lauren Blazing has had a breakout season, totaling 122 saves in 21 outings ... A product of Durham, N.C., she ranked seventh nationally in save percentage with a .795 clip entering the weekend ... Blazing posted a career-best 22 saves in a 3-2 overtime shootout victory over previously unbeaten and top-ranked North Carolina Sept. 27 to earn ACC Player of the Week recognition.
Duke in the NCAA Championship The Blue Devils own an all-time record of 16-11 in the NCAA Tournament while making three trips to the national championship match (2003, 2004, 2005) ... Duke is 4-4 all-time in quarterfinal contests ... The 2011 NCAA Championship saw the squad advance to the quarterfinals before falling to Old Dominion, 2-1 ... The Blue Devils last hosted NCAA preliminary round action in 2006, defeating James Madison 3-2 in the first round and topping Ohio State in the quarterfinals, 3-0, in Durham.
