BRADENTON, Fla.-- The second-ranked Duke women’s tennis team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Old Dominion on Wednesday afternoon at the IMG Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The Blue Devils are spending the week in Florida for spring break and featured the non-conference match at the former home of Duke junior Annie Mulholland, which attended IMG Academy prior to arriving in Durham.
The match featured only singles competition and Duke made quick work of the match winning in straight sets on all six courts.
Sixth-ranked Beatrice Capra blanked Nikol Hristova, 6-0, 6-0, on court one, while Marianne Jodoin didn’t lose a game on court six winning, 6-0, 6-0, for the Blue Devils.
The 24th-ranked Ester Goldfeld improved to 20-7 on the season with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ingrid Vojcinakova on court No. 2. Duke senior Rachel Kahan won her fifth consecutive match to move to 9-3 on the year with a 6-2, 6-1 win on the third court.
Duke freshman Alyssa Smith, who is ranked No. 94 nationally, produced a 6-0, 6-2 win on court four versus Ivana Vukovic. Mulholland then took down Nika Khomolovska, 6-0, 7-5, on court five.
The Blue Devils moved to 14-1 on the season, while Old Dominion dropped to 7-4. Duke will next host Florida State on Sunday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m., at Ambler Tennis Stadium. The match will be aired live on ESPN3.
