DURHAM, N.C. -- The Duke men’s track and field team saw five individuals and a relay team appear on the men’s 2014 U.S. Indoor Performance List, as compiled by Track & Field News Tuesday. The list consists of top performances by all U.S. competitors during the 2014 indoor track and field season. Both professional athletes and collegiate student-athletes appear on the performance list.

Redshirt senior Curtis Beach headlines the Duke contingent, appearing twice on the performance list. Beach led all collegians in the heptathlon in 2014 after amassing a point total of 6,190 at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Beach’s national championship effort sits behind only Olympic goldmedalist Ashton Eaton. In addition to the heptathlon, Beach’s 500-meter 1:01.50 run at the Armory Collegiate Invitational Feb. 8, ranked second in 2014, less than a second behind Brycen Stratling of Pittsburgh.

Fellow multi-event competitor Ian Rock also saw a top-30 U.S. performance in the heptathlon following his 5,510-point effort at the ACC Indoor Championships. Rock earned a second-place finish with his personal-best point total.

The 4x800 meter relay of freshmen Dylan Murphy and Alec Kunzweiler, junior Nate McClafferty and sophomore Michal Filipczak ran the eighth-fastest overall time in the nation and the third-fastest collegiate time in 2014, recording a time of 7:30.06. The Blue Devils won the event for the second time in school history at the 107th running of the Millrose Games in New York, N.Y.

Two Duke harriers, junior Shaun Thompson and graduate student Mike Moverman, recorded top-25 times in the 5,000. Both Thompson and Moverman earned the marks at the Armory Collegiate Invitational, after Thompson covered the distance in a time of 14:03.15 and Moverman clocked a time of 14:07.38. Thompson and Moverman’s times ranked 15th and 22nd, respectively.

In the field, senior Tanner Anderson cleared a height of 7-3.00 (2.21) at the ACC Indoor Championships, ranking 19th in the nation in 2014. Anderson posted the second-highest clearance in the conference, behind only Florida State’s James Harris.

The Blue Devils continue the outdoor season Friday, April 4, at High Point, N.C.
