DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to announce the addition of outfielder James McGhee to the 2015 roster. A native of Pensacola, Fla., McGhee is set to join the Blue Devils this fall.
“James McGhee is a spark plug player with a great motor,” Pollard said. “He is a plus runner with surprising pop for his size. He has great range in the outfield and a very strong arm. He plays with great energy and makes the guys around him better. We look forward to having James with us in “Duke Blue” this fall.”
A product of Pensacola Catholic High School, McGhee led the Crusaders to state championships in both 2012 and 2013. Pensacola Catholic was named National Champions in 2013 by USA Today, CBS MaxPreps, Student Sports FAB 50 and Collegiate Baseball after they completed a perfect 30-0 season in 2013.
An athletic outfielder with good range, McGhee also boasts great arm strength and a short, quick left-handed swing. In 14 games this season, he’s hitting .487 with 14 runs, 10 RBI, two doubles and a home run.
McGhee is one of the top 300 prospects nationally according to Perfect Game. He also received 2013 Underclass Honorable Mention and 2014 Florida Region Honorable Mention honors from the organization.
Duke is set to add 14 incoming freshmen this fall. GoDuke.com will release each of the Blue Devils’ 2014 signing class members, so check back for more information on all the future Duke players.
