DURHAM, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday the 2019 All-ACC Baseball Teams, with a pair of Blue Devils receiving all-conference recognition.
Senior outfielder Kennie Taylor and freshman infielder Ethan Murray both earned All-ACC accolades for the 2019 campaign, with Taylor being named to the all-conference first team—the first such honor of his career—and Murray receiving a nod for the ACC All-Freshman Team.
Taylor has been a consistent force in the Blue Devil lineup across this season, leading the club in multiple statistical categories. The Duke center fielder ranks first on the team in hits (76), doubles (18), and triples (5), while ranking second in RBI (39) and tying for second in both home runs (6) and runs scored (45).
The co-captain from Tampa, Fla., closed out the regular season tying for fifth in the ACC in hits while ranking third in hits per game (1.43). Taylor also placed ninth in the conference in doubles and tied for 13th in batting average, hitting at a .333 (76-228) clip. The senior outfielder is in the midst of a career-best season, totaling career highs in hits, doubles, triples, RBI, walks and stolen bases across his final year with the Blue Devils.
Murray has recorded a standout freshman campaign for Duke as the team’s everyday shortstop. The first-year Blue Devil is one of only two players to start every contest this season for Duke as he ranks second on the team in batting average (.317), hits (60), walks (26) and on-base percentage (.399). The Crozet, Va., native is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 45 throughout the campaign.
Murray paced the team’s offensive efforts in ACC play, batting a team-high .321 (34-106) across league play while adding 24 runs scored to rank first on the squad. The Duke shortstop ranked 20th overall in batting average in conference action, while placing seventh among freshmen.
Taylor, Murray and the seventh-seeded Blue Devils (30-24, 15-15 ACC) are set to begin play at the ACC Baseball Championship this Tuesday at 7 p.m. as the team faces 11th-seeded Notre Dame at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Blue Devils will wrap up pool play Friday morning with a matchup against second-seeded Georgia Tech, which is set for an 11 a.m. first pitch.
