Captain of 1937 State and Conference Championship Team
.472 Batting Average in 1937 is Number Two Mark in Duke History
Holder of Four School Career Records
Led Team to 64-12 Record in Three Seasons

Wayne Ambler, an Abington, Pennsylvania, product, was Duke's second baseman from 1935 through 1937 and helped the Blue Devils win the state and Southern Conference championships his senior year. The team had a composite record of 64-12 during his three seasons.

Ambler batted .279 in helping the 1935 squad to a 24-3 record, then had a .339 average to aid the 1936 team in posting an 18-7 record.

Ambler was named captain of the 1937 Blue Devils and he turned in his greatest year. During that season, he had a school record .472 batting average as Duke compiled a 22-2 overall record and 16-1 conference mark. That batting mark still stands as the number two average in Duke history.

Upon graduation, Ambler held school career records for most runs scored, most hits, most triples and most runs batted in. Several of Ambler's marks stood until the 1980's.
