Long-time athletic trainer Max Crowder has become synonymous with Duke basketball as he has been a part of over 600 victories and nine of Duke's 10 Final Four appearances in his 30 years of sitting on the bench.

There probably has never been a more popular figure in Duke lore than the native of Cherryville, N.C.: Quite an accomplishment for a person who has never put on a uniform or coached a game.

Crowder became the head basketball trainer in 1966, and in 1978 was named head athletics trainer.

In 1989, he retired from full-time training duties, but continued to serve as the trainer for basketball. He amassed a streak of 899 consecutive games worked until lung surgery forced him to miss the Michigan game on December 14, 1991 and the remainder of the 1991-92 season.
