Career: A three-year starter and two-time All-American for Duke’s close defense … Started his career with the Blue Devils in the fall of 2003 and graduated from Duke in 2007 … Went on to serve in the 3rd BN 75th Ranger Regiment of the US Army from 2007-12 … Returned to Duke in the fall of 2012 and suffered a torn ACL prior to the 2013 season … Hit the field again Feb. 8, 2014 after a medical redshirt for the first time since May 28, 2007 – a span of 2,447 days … Played in 77 games with 60 starts … Amassed 214 ground balls along with two goals and two assists … Was a member of two NCAA Championship teams (2013, 2014), four Duke teams that advanced to championship weekend (2005, 2007, 2013, 2014) and two NCAA runner-up squads.

2014: Started 19 of 20 games at close defense … Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week in his first game back on the field in 2,447 days … Collected 49 ground balls on the year to rank second on the team and tops among defensemen … Tied for the team lead with 22 caused turnovers … Picked up a ground ball in 17 games and had five-plus ground balls three times … Had five grounders and three caused turnovers in his first game back since 2007 – a 16-10 win over Jacksonville (2/8) … Registered a season-high five caused turnovers in the victory over Stony Brook (2/23) … Also had five ground balls against the Seawolves … Forced three turnovers in 9-8 overtime win over ACC rival North Carolina (3/15) … Picked up four ground balls at Notre Dame (4/5) … Grabbed two ground balls in NCAA Championship game against Notre Dame (5/26) … USILA Scholar All-America … All-ACC Academic Team … ACC Academic Honor Roll.  

2014: Has started 16 of 17 games for the Blue Devils in 2014 ... Leads all close defensemen with 21 caused turnovers and 44 ground balls ... Picked up a season-high five ground balls three times ... Registered a career-best five caused turnovers in win over Stony Brook ... Was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week in his first game back at Duke, which spanned 2,447 days.

2013: Missed season to a torn ACL sufferred in January of 2013. 

2007: Started all 20 games on defense ... a USILA first team All-America choice ... earned All-ACC recognition ... named to the All-ACC Tournament Team after helping Duke to ACC title ... ranked second on the team with 68 ground balls ... netted a goal in 11-9 win over No. 9 Johns Hopkins (4/7) ... also scooped up a season-high seven ground balls against the Blue Jays ... also collected seven ground balls in regular season wins over Virginia (4/14) and North Carolina (3/17) ... picked up four ground balls in win over Dartmouth (2/24) to start the 2007 campaign ... had six ground balls against Providence (5/12) in NCAA Tournament first round and North Carolina (4/17) in the ACC Tournament ... registered four ground balls and two caused turnovers in NCAA Championship game against Johns Hopkins (5/28) ... ACC Academic Honor Roll.

2006: Played in the first four games of the year before suffering season-ending knee injury during a practice session on March 6 ... underwent successful surgery on April 10 ... registered nine ground balls including a season-high five versus Villanova (2/25).

2005: USILA Honorable Mention All-America selection ... played in 19 games, earning 17 starting assignments ... missed the Vermont game (3/21) ... played a key role in Duke ranking first in the ACC and third nationally in team defense by allowing 6.95 goals per game — an improvement of 2.75 goals per game from the 2004 campaign ... ranked second on the team with 69 ground balls including a career-high 11 against Army (4/23) ... added an assist in the triumph over the Black Knights ... finished fourth in the ACC in ground balls per game (3.63) ... scored the first goal of his career in the NCAA quarterfinal victory over Cornell (5/22) ... scooped up eight ground balls in Duke’s 12-3 win at Georgetown (3/26).

2004: Played in all 13 games ... secured 19 ground balls ... lone assist of the year came against VMI (3/2) ... carded a season-high five ground balls against UMBC (2/28).

Prep: Four-year letterman at Baldwin High School ... all-county and All-America selection ... served as team captain ... member of the Long Island Empire Team ... also an all-county pick in football ... named Baldwin’s athlete of the year.

Personal: Son of Peter and Eileen Carroll ... married to the former Erin Hathorn ... couple had their first son Casey Patrick Carroll in September 2012 and second son John Aspden Carroll in November 2013 ... Born December 17, 1984.
