Maryland got on the board first, scoring a goal on their first shot of the game, at the 23:27 mark. TheTerps' Sara Gustafson took a terri Greer shot which bounced off a Duke defender and put it beyond reach of Duke goalkeeper Isis Dallis. It marked Gustafson's fourth goal of the season, three of which have come against Duke.
The tempo of the game slowed for the remainder of the half, as Duke finished iwth six shots in the first period, but were unable to convert any to goals. Maryland finished with just the one shot in the first 45 minutes.
The second half had a little more action, asDuke tied it up with a goal seven minutes into the period. Sherrill Kester took her own rebound off a Maryland defender and fired it in from 10 yards out. It was the fourteenth goal of the season for Kester, who is Duke's leading scorer.
Maryland broke the tie in the 77th minute, scoring a goal folowing a scramble in front of the Duke goal. The Terps' Lindsay Basalyga and Dana Jarzyniecki positioned the ball into the box, but Dallis attempted to fall on the ball for a stop. As the ball popped away from Dallis, Marland'd Jackie Mynarski was in position to connect with the net for the Terps' game-winning score. Basalyga and Jarzyniecki were both credited with assists.
