CHAPEL HILL, N.C. The Duke University women's tennis team dominated play all weekend long at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. as the Blue Devils brought home two singles crowns and two doubles titles.
Freshman Ansley Cargill (Atlanta, Ga.) won the Flight A singles crown on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 42 ranked Marlene Mejia of North Carolina. Cargill is currently ranked tied for 59th in the ITA rankings. Sophomore Hillary Adams (New York, N.Y.) picked up the Flight B singles title as she knocked off Kate Pinchbeck of North Carolina (6-4, 1-6, 6-2).
Freshman Amanda Johnson (Bettendorf, Iowa) defeated No. 91 Julie Rotondi of North Carolina (6-3, 6-3) to finish in third place in Flight A. Johnson is ranked No. 89 in the preseason ITA rankings.
Duke highlighted the doubles competition also as the Blue Devils posted an all-Duke Flight A final with Adams/Cargill taking on Johnson/Megan Miller. The duo of Johnson/Miller came away with the victory winning 8-3. In Flight B doubles action Duke's Prim Siripipat/Ioana Plesu defeated Tuchband/Weaver of Virginia 8-5 to win the title.
The Blue Devils will head to Pacific Palisades, Calif. to compete in the ITA All-American from Oct. 14-22.
