Women's Tennis Sweeps ITA Southeast Regional Singles & Doubles

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. Freshman Amanda Johnson (Bettendorf, Iowa) knocked
off No. 31 ranked Janet Bergman (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) of Wake Forest on Monday to
earn co-singles champion honors at the 2000 ITA Southeast Regional
Qualifying Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.
With the victory on Monday, Johnson, who is currently ranked No. 88 in the latest ITA rankings, earned a bid in the Rolex Nationals held in Dallas, Texas on Feb. 1-4, 2001. Johnson earned co-singles honors with Marlene Mejia of North Carolina as she knocked off Wake Forest's Maren Haus 6-0, 6-4. She joins Duke's other freshman, Ansley Cargill, who earned a bid to the Nationals after winning the Riviera All-America earlier this fall.
Duke's doubles duo of Johnson/Megan Miller won the doubles competition on Monday with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory over Lauren Rooklege/Brooke Skeen of Kentucky. The duo also receives a bid to the Rolex Nationals in Dallas.
All matches were played in the Indoor Tennis Center at Wake Forest.
