" I was very disappointed that we only scored one goal," said Highsmith. "We had many opportunities tonight and did not finish."
Highsmith scored the game-winning goal at 19:17 of the first half. She beat two Oregon defenders and took a shot which deflected off the goal post into the back of the net.
"I am happy with a victory," said Duke head coach Bill Hempen. "But I am very disappointed with how our team came to play. Liz Wagner gave us great presence in the backfield tonight."
Duke outshot Oregon 34-13, including 22-4 in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Isis Dallis (Marlboro, Mass.) made seven saves as she picked up her second shutout of the year.
The Blue Devils (4-0) return to action Sunday, Sept. 9th vs. South Carolina at 3 p.m. in the final game of the Nike Carolina Classic.
