The Blue Devils opened play with three victories in doubles action to take a 1-0 lead. The sixth-ranked duo of Megan Miller (Palm City, Fla.) and Amanda Johnson (Bettendorf, Iowa) got Duke rolling with an 8-5 victory over fifth-ranked Kristy Dascoli/Monica Rincon. The Blue Devils also received victories by Kathy Sell (Moorestown, N.J.) and Ansley Cargill (Atlanta, Ga.) 8-1 over Sadhaf Pervez/Laura Maloney, while Hillary Adams (New York, N.Y.) and Katie Granson (Bethlehem, Penn.) defeated Erica Fisk/Claudia Castro 8-5.
In singles action, Cargill, ranked second nationally, improved to 18-2 on the season with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over 19th-ranked Dascoli at the No. 1 spot. The 16th-ranked Johnson won easily 6-1, 6-2 over Rincon at No. 2, Miller knocked off Pervez 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, and the 14th-ranked Sell picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Fisk at the fourth slot.
At the No. 5 singles spot, Granson knocked off Michelle Matko 6-1, 6-1 and Adams notched a 7-5, 6-1 win over Castro at No. 6.
Duke will next take on 50th-ranked Indiana on Saturday morning at 1l:00 AM. All matches are being played on the campus of the University of Maryland.
