Charlottesville, Va. - Fifth-ranked Duke knocked off 56th-ranked Virginia, 6-1, on Sunday in women's tennis action in Charlottesville, Va. to pick up its 18th victory of the season and improved to 5-0 in ACC action.
The Blue Devils continued their stellar doubles play notching wins at all three doubles positions to take the 1-0 lead. Duke received victories from Kelly McCain/Hillary Adams over Henriette Williams/Jennifer Tuchband (8-6), 42nd-ranked Julie DeRoo/Amanda Johnson over Amy O'Donnell/Christine Kim (8-5) and Susie Abromeit/Katie Granson over Logan Smith/Elizabeth Hornberger (8-2).
In singles action, Duke won the second through sixth positions to take the team victory. The Blue Devils received victories from 30th-ranked Johnson, 21st-ranked DeRoo, 77th-ranked Saras Arasu, Granson and Hillary Adams. The lone loss was an upset as third-ranked McCain fell 6-7, 6-1, 6-7 to Williams at the top position.
Duke (18-3, 5-0) will next face third-ranked Wake Forest on Thursday at 5:00 PM in Durham. The match will be played outside in the Ambler Tennis Stadium.
