WILMINGTON, N.C. - Blue Devil junior Ryan Blaum claimed his second straight victory as Duke finished second at The Landfall Tradition. Blaum posted an eight-under par 208 (68-71-69) to win by one shot over teammate Nathan Smith (66-72-71) and UNC-Wilmington's Will Shambley. Michigan State won the overall title with a total score of 851 (13-under-par), four shots ahead of Duke.
Duke freshman Michael Schachner was the third Blue Devil finisher, posting scores of 70-73-75--218, good for a tie for 23rd place. Sophomore Jake Grodzinsky tied for 35th with a seven-over-par 223 (74-76-73) to round out the Duke scorers. Freshman Michael Quagliano tied for 44th with a three-round score of 226 (78-74-74).
The Blue Devils will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Dalton, Ga., to compete in the Carpet Collegiate Classic, which was postponed earlier in the season because of Hurricane Ivan.
