DURHAM, N.C. ? Sophomore Ali Hausfeld recorded her second consecutive triple-double, leading the Duke Blue Devils to a 3-1 (31-29, 28-30, 30-20, 30-20) win over the Clemson Tigers on Thursday night in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke improves to 14-6 overall and 8-4 in the ACC while Clemson falls to 9-11 and 4-8 in the conference. The Blue Devils avenged an earlier season loss to the Tigers with tonight's victory.
Hausfeld's second consecutive triple-double (65 assists, 11 kills, 10 digs) is her third triple-double in Duke's last five matches. The Springboro, Ohio, native posted a triple-double (45 assists, 12 kills, 12 digs) in last week's win over Miami after accomplishing the feat (70 assists, 11 kills, 12 digs) in a 3-1 win over Boston College on October 14.
In the first game of the match, Duke trailed Clemson, 27-29, before rallying for four straight points to win the opening frame, 31-29. After dropping game two, 28-30, the Blue Devils used runs of five and seven straight points in each of the final two games to win both frames by a score of 30-20.
Junior Tealle Hunkus picked up her ninth double-double of the season, posting a team-high 20 kills and 18 digs. Sophomore Carrie DeMange registered her 16th double-double of the year with 15 kills and 17 digs, senior Sarah Salem had her third double-double of 2005 with 16 kills and 11 digs, and freshman Jourdan Norman recorded her first career double-double, posting 17 kills and a team-high 10 block assists.
Duke was led defensively by sophomore Jenny Shull, who had a match-high 21 digs. Freshman Susanna Carls recorded five blocks assists and Hausfeld added four block assists in the win.
The Blue Devils will host Georgia Tech (13-7, 9-2 ACC) tomorrow night in Cameron Indoor Stadium at 7 p.m. Duke defeated Georgia Tech, 3-1, in their first meeting of the year on September 24 to claim their first conference victory of the season.
