
No. 8 Duke Wins 11 of 12 Matches Against No. 48 Michigan at Hidden Duals

Miami, Fla. - The No. 8 Duke men's tennis team was in action for the first time since Nov. 6 when they squared off against No. 48 Michigan on the first day of the Hidden Dual Tournament in Miami, Fla. on Saturday. The Blue Devils swept the eight singles matches and took three of the four doubles matches on the day.
Kiril Dimitrov, a freshman from Sofia, Bulgaria, made his collegiate debut at Duke with a win in straight sets over Steve Peretz 6-3, 6-4. Ludovic Walter, a senior from Vannes, France and No. 9 in the first FILA Collegiate singles rankings, picked up where he left off in the fall with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over No. 58 Matko Maravic. Joey Atas, a junior transfer from Ohio State, also earned a victory over a ranked opponent as he won in two sets 7-5, 7-5, against No. 62 Ryan Heller. The Blue Devils other ranked singles player, No. 20 Jonathan Stokke, won in three sets against Brian Hung 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.
The other four Blue Devils in action on Saturday also came away victorious. Peter Rodrigues, a junior from Estoril, Portugal, defeated Andrew Mazlin 7-6, 6-1. Ned Samuelson, a sophomore from Belmont, Mass., won 6-3, 6-3 over Peter Aarts. Christopher Brown, a senior from Potomac, Md., defeated Scott Bruckmann 6-4, 6-3 and Alex Stone, a sophomore from Bronx, N.Y., won handily 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles action, Duke won three of the four matches on the day. Stokke and Rodrigues defeated Heller and Mazlin, 8-4. Dimitrov and Samuelson were victorious against Aarts and Peretz, 8-6. Stone and Brown earned an 8-6 decision against Bruckmann and DePietro. The only loss for the Blue Devils came when Hung and Maravic defeated Walter and Atas, 8-4.
Duke will be back in action on Sunday when they face No. 22 Texas at 2 p.m. The Blue Devils will host their first dual match of the season on January 29 at 6 p.m. against Old Dominion.
