FLUSHING MEADOWS N.Y. - Senior Kristin Cargill and the Duke duo of seniors Clelia Deltour and Parker Goyer will be in action in their flight's championships matches on Monday in the USTA Billie Jean King NTC Women's College Tennis Invitational after posting wins on Sunday.
The No. 1-seeded team of Deltour and Goyer recorded three wins on Sunday to reach the championships match of Doubles Flight B, defeating Marlena Hall and Sydney Murray of Columbia, 8-4, Austin Hansen and Jessica Preeg of Virginia, 8-1, and Darcy Robertson and Joanna Roth of Princeton, 8-6. Deltour and Goyer will meet fifth-seeded Maria Anisimova and Charlie Tansil of Penn on Monday morning.
In the Singles B Flight, third-seeded Cargill also posted three wins on Sunday to reach the championship match. Cargill defeated Sara Mansur of Brown (6-2, 7-6(0)), fifth-seeded Alejandra Guerra of N.C. State (6-1, 6-1) and Penn's Tansil (7-5, 6-2), and is set set to meet Berkeley Brock of N.C. State on Monday morning in the final match.
Senior Jennifer Zika was also in action in the Singles B Flight, and after falling in the first round of the main draw on Saturday, posted two wins in the consolation bracket. Zika defeated Paige Ford of Army (6-2, 6-3) and No. 8 seed Lauren Cash of Boston College (6-1, 6-1).
First-seeded Deltour and fifth-seeded Goyer were in action in the Singles C Flight main draw on Sunday as well. After picking up two wins on Saturday, Deltour fell to Maria Anisimoa of Penn on Sunday, 7-5, 6-0. Goyer also posted two victories on day one of the invitational and picked up a third by defeating third-seeded Caroline Hammond of Virginia on Sunday, but fell to Neils Barringer of Virginia in three sets in the quarterfinal match (6-7 (3), 6-4, 10-4).
Consolation doubles action in Flight A saw No. 1-seeded Cargill and freshman Amanda Granson fall to Ivana King and Melissa Saiontz of Princeton, 8-0, while senior Tory Zawacki and Zika posted two wins in the same flight. The duo defeated Michelle Mitchell and Alexis Plukas of Penn, 8-5, and Janet Kim and Jessie Rhee of Yale, 8-3.
