Rowbury, Gubbins Notch Top-25 Finishes At USA XC Championships

NEW YORK -- Freshman Geary Gubbins and senior Shannon Rowbury both finished in the top 25 at the USA Cross Country Championships Sunday with Gubbins taking 25th in the junior men's 8K and Rowbury coming in 11th in the senior women's 4K.

The pair of Duke runners were following a sixth-place performance by freshman teammate Maddie McKeever Saturday to qualify for the USA Cross Country team heading to the junior World Championships in Japan in April.

Gubbins completed the 8K course in 25:12, 41 seconds faster than the last time he competed at Van Cortlandt Park. Gubbins ran 25:53 as a member of the winning Duke cross country team at the IC4A Championships in New York in November. Rowbury crossed the line in 13:02 as the first collegiate finisher and youngest runner among the top 47.

ESPN2 will televise the USA Cross Country Championships at midnight Sunday night (Monday morning).
