FRANKLIN, TENN.-- Led by a career-best round of five-under-par, 67, by sophomore Jennie Lee, the top-ranked Duke Women's Golf team surged atop the leaderboard of the Mason Rudolph Collegiate Championship on Saturday with a four-under-par, 284, and now leads by seven strokes going into the final day of action.
Duke owns a 36-hole total of 567 and leads Georgia (574), UCLA (576), Stanford (582), Oklahoma State (587), Wake Forest (587), Virginia (588), Arizona (588), Purdue (592) and Louisiana State (594), which is being played at the 6,217-yard, Par 72 Ironhorse Course at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. With her stellar round on the day, Lee now sits tied for the individual lead with a six-under-par total of 138 along with UCLA's Tiffany Joh.
Lee, who is from Henderson, Nev., kicked off her round with a one-under-par, 35, front nine as she totaled two birdies and one bogey. On the back nine was when she turned up the heat as she collected four birdies on holes No. 11, 14, 16 and 18 to post her career-best round of 67. Lee birdied three of four par-fives on the day.
Continuing her excellent play on Saturday was junior Jennifer Pandolfi who fired a two-over-par, 74, and is now tied for 10th with a 144. Pandolfi, a product of Navarre, Fla., came out of the gates and made the turn at thee-over-par, 39, but settled down on the back nine and turned in a one-under-par, 35, to finish off her day.
After having her score not counted on Friday for the first time in her collegiate career, Amanda Blumenherst came back to fire a three-under-par, 69, on Saturday and is sixth, individually. A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Blumenherst totaled five birdies in the round. She opened play on Saturday with a birdie on the first hole, but went back to even par with a bogey on No. 2. Blumenherst posted six pars over the next seven holes along with a birdie on No. 6 to make the turn at one-under-par, 35. She went to two-under-par with a birdie on No. 10, but a bogey on the par-five 14th hole sent her back to one-under-par. Blumenherst closed out her round with birdies on the No. 17 and No. 18 to finish with a 69.
Senior Anna Grzebien once again grinded through her round on Saturday and posted a two-over-par, 74. The Narragansett, R.I., product now sits tied for 14th with a two-day total of 145. Grzebien made the turn at one-over-par, 37, on Saturday and then fired six pars, two bogies and one birdie on the par-five 18th hole to finish off the day. She has totaled 27 pars over the first two days of play.
Coming off a one-under-par, 71, in her first collegiate action on Friday, freshman Alison Whitaker struggled on day two finishing with a five-over-par, 77, and sits tied for 30th with a 148. A product of Melbourne, Australia, Whitaker began the day with a birdie on No. 1 but didn't have another birdie the rest of the round.
Playing as an individual, Blue Devil freshman Rebecca Kim struggled on day two with an 82. She is tied for 75th with a 161 as she totaled three birdies on Saturday.
Duke will tee off on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. along with Georgia and UCLA, while Kim will begin her final round at 8:30 a.m.
