CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Duke swimming and diving teams fell to nationally ranked Virginia on Friday in Charlottesville, Va., as the No. 17 Cavalier men posted a 126-100 victory over the Blue Devil men and the No. 20 UVA women came away with a 126.5-110.5 win over the Duke women.
The Duke women fall to 4-3 (1-3 ACC) on the season with the loss. Freshman diver Julie Brummond was a double winner for the second consecutive dual meet for Duke, as she took first place on the 1-meter board with a score of 255.45 and first place on the 3-meter board with a mark of 276.38.
Other Blue Devil event winners included freshman Shannon Beall, who took first in the 200 butterfly, touching in 2:05.36, sophomore Erin Frizzell, who took the top spot in the 200 backstroke with a a time of 2:05.96, and senior Jackie Rodriguez, who took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.90).
The Blue Devil men fall to 3-4 (1-3 ACC) on the season with the loss. Sophomore Nick Campisano took first place on the 3-meter board for Duke, notching a score of 321.53. Freshman Eric Winnard took second in that event, tallying a mark of 305.03, and on the 1-meter board (268.65), while Campisano finished third on the 1-meter board (266.10).
Up next for Duke, is a home meet versus East Carolina on Jan. 27. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion, as the Blue Devils close out their home schedule.
