CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Duke men's swimming team took ninth place at the 2007 ACC Championships, as the Blue Devils completed championship action on Saturday at the University of North Carolina's Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The final day of ACC Championship action was highlighted by senior Kevin Arthofer's sixth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke finals, as Arthofer touched in 2:01.94 to contribute 13 points to Duke's team score. That time was a personal-best for the senior and a Duke season-best.
Freshman J.D. Coppell competed in the 200 breast bonus finals, touching in 2:10.57.
Freshman Tim McKeever was Duke's top finisher in the 1650 freestyle event, touching in 15:51.00, which set a Duke season-best and a new personal-best for McKeever. Classmates Andrew Clark (15.59.20) and Sean Smith (16.33.32) also set personal-bests in the 1650 free.
Three Blue Devils were in action in the 200 backstroke bonus finals, as junior Scott Champagne touched in 1:53.15 established a Duke season-best and a new personal-best; freshman David Hahn finished in 1:53.25 and freshman Murillo Adrados posted a time of 1:56.28.
Freshman Eric Ness touched in 1:53.02 in the 200 butterfly bonus finals, fresh off his personal-best time of 1:52.73 in preliminary action.
The Duke 400 freestyle relay team of senior Jacob McCafferty, junior Matt Rinehart, Champagne and freshman David Carlson notched a time of 3:06.96 for a Duke season-best, as the foursome took ninth place to contribute 18 points to Duke's overall score.
Duke finished in ninth place at the 2007 ACC Championship in ninth place with 128 points. Florida State took first place with 714 points, while Virginia (616.5) and host North Carolina (532.5) round out the top three.
