MURRELLS INLET, S.C. -- The Duke University men's golf team is fourth overall after two rounds of play at the General Jim Hackler Championship. The Blue Devils opened with a six-over 294 in the first round of play on Sunday, before shooting a three-under 285 on the second 18 holes of the day. Lamar is first after blistering the TPC of Myrtle Beach course for a 23-under 553 after 36 holes. Southern California is second at 16-under (560), while host Coastal Carolina is third at four-under (572).
Freshman
Adam Long had the best day for the Blue Devils shooting 74-69 (-1) to close the day tied for 14th overall. The St. Louis, Mo., native finished the first 36 holes with seven birdies and an eagle.
Jake Grodzinsky also opened with a 74 in the first round before shooting a one-under 71 on the second 18 to finish tied for 28th at one-over (145). The Cornville, Ariz., native carded seven birdies and an eagle on the day. Freshman
Jeff Edelman shot 75-71 and is tied for 34th at two-over, while junior
Michael Schachner is three-over after shooting 73-74. Schachner had a team-high 11 birdies in the opening two rounds. Sophomore
Clark Klaasen is tied for 48th after posting rounds of 73 and 75.
Tom Glissmeyer (USC) and Rhys Davies (East Tenn. State) lead the tournament at nine-under (135), one shot ahead of Dawie Van Der Walt (Lamar). Corey Nagy (Charlotte) is fourth at seven-under, while Casey Clendenon (Lamar) rounds out the top five at six-under.
The Blue Devils tee off final round action beginning at 9:40 am off the front side at the TPC of Myrtle Beach. Duke will be paired with Lamar, Southern Cal and Coastal Carolina.
