DETROIT, MI, -- The Rotary Club of Detroit announced today that Duke senior Lindsey Harding has been selected as the 2007 Nancy Lieberman Award winner. The award recognizes the nation's top collegiate point guard in women's Division I basketball. The criteria for the award are the floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills that personified Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman during her career. Sportswriters from across the country determined the award winner and finalists.
The three finalists (in alphabetical order) are: Kimberly Beck (George Washington), Ivory Latta (North Carolina), and Renee Montgomery (Connecticut).
Harding, the 5-8 point guard, helped Duke become the first ACC team and 14th squad in NCAA history to finish the regular season undefeated with a 29-0 mark. As a senior, she averaged 13.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals in 34 games. Harding is Duke's all-time assist leader with 579 and is the second Blue Devil and sixth ACC player, in league history, to register over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists and 250 steals in a career. She is also Duke's all-time wins leader with 128 victories.
Among her many 2006-2007 honors, she was selected ESPN.com Player of the Year,
the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Defensive Player of the Year, ACC Player of the Year & Defensive Player of the Year and the Frances Pomery Award winner.
The Blue Devils won the ACC Regular Season title and posted their NCAA record seventh straight 30-win season as Duke finished with a 32-2 mark.
