DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke men's and women's tennis teams will head to the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Championships this week, April 19-22, at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., as the Blue Devil men received the No. 3 seed and the women received the No. 7 seed for this year's championships.
On the men's side, Virginia picked up the top overall seed after finishing the 2007 regular season with a perfect 11-0 record in conference action. Earning the No. 2 seed is North Carolina with a regular season record of 21-2 (9-2 ACC) , as Duke (15-8, 8-3 ACC) claimed the No. 3 seed and looks for its 13th ACC Championship. Wake Forest (20-5, 7-4 ACC) is seeded fourth.
The top four seeds receive a first round bye, as the Blue Devils will face the winner of a first round game between sixth-seeded Florida State and 11th-seeded Maryland on Friday at 3 p.m.
On the women's side, Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Miami all earned a first-round bye. Clemson (19-3, 10-1 ACC) and defending league tournament champion Georgia Tech (20-4, 10-1 ACC) reign as the conference's regular-season champions, but the Tigers secured the No. 1 seed after winning the tiebreaker based on head-to-head competition, as the Yellow Jackets landed the No. 2 seed. North Carolina (20-7, 8-3 ACC) and Miami (17-5, 8-3 ACC) finished the regular season tied in points, but the Tar Heels won the tiebreaker based on head-to-head competition and secured the No. 3 seed. Miami lost to UNC during the season, but received the No. 4 seed.
Seventh-seeded Duke (10-9, 5-6 ACC) will face 10th-seeded Virginia Tech (12-12, 2-9 ACC) in a first round matchup on Thursday at 12 p.m., with the winner advancing to meet Georgia Tech on Friday at 12 p.m.
