
Dimitrov Highlights Day One of UVA Fall Invitational

Dimitrov, ranked No. 57 in the preseason ITA singles rankings, is playing in the top singles bracket of the tournament as the No. 4 seed. In his first match of the day he cruised to a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory over Elon's Alberto Rojas. Dimitrov followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win against
Sophomore Aaron Carpenter also earned two wins on day one. He won by default to start the day and then downed Brown's Nathaniel Gorham 6-3, 6-1 to move on to the semifinals of the green singles bracket.
Playing in the red singles bracket with Dimitrov was Duke freshman Reid Carleton, who is ranked No. 114 in the preseason rankings. Carleton dropped his first collegiate match in straight sets but bounced back to win 6-2, 6-4 against Virginia Tech's Yoann Re in the consolation quarterfinals.
Duke's other ranked player, No. 109 Dylan Arnould, drew the No. 100 player in the country to start the day and fell to Albert Larregola of Virginia Tech in straight sets. He followed with a loss in a third set super tiebreaker 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) to Dan Nguyen of Harvard in the consolation round. Fellow sophomore David Lue went 1-1 on the first day of competition. Senior Alex Stone began his final season with a win, defeating Yakov Diskin of Old Dominion 6-1, 7-5. Stone then fell in the quarterfinal round to Brendan Lynch of
Also beginning their college careers at Duke were Alain Michel and Christopher Price. Michel lost his first two matches while Price suffered a loss in the opening round but showed resilience by defeating Brad Clinard of Charlotte in the first consolation round by a score of 6-3, 7-6.
The second day of the UVA Fall Invitational will feature one round of singles and two rounds of doubles. The tournament will wrap up on Sunday with the finals for both singles and doubles.
