DURHAM, N.C. ? The Duke cross country and track & field team will hold its annual Summer Running Camp from July 29 - August 2, 2009. Registration has opened and will continue through July 15th (or until camp is filled).
The Duke Running Camp provides campers with an inside look at how the Blue Devils have established themselves as one of our nation's premiere collegiate running programs. The focus of the camp is to provide instruction in the running events, primarily 800-meters through 5,000-meters and cross country for boys and girls ages 12-18. Instruction includes running workouts, form drills, stretching, strength training, racing strategies, nutrition, and sports psychology. Optional instruction is provided in the steeplechase. The Duke Running Camp is sponsored by Nike and campers will receive Nike apparel.
The training facilities at Duke University are among the best in the nation. With over 30 miles of running trails in the Duke Forest, there are a great variety of running routes on soft surfaces accessible directly from campus. Duke has one of the most beautiful track & field facilities in the country, having recently installed a new track inside the 34,000-seat Wallace Wade Stadium that is designed specifically for middle and long distance runners. Duke hosted the 1990 and 2000 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships inside Wallace Wade Stadium.
Duke Head Women's Cross Country Coach Kevin Jermyn will serve as Camp Director for the 2009 Duke Running Camp. Duke Head Men's Cross Country Coach Norm Ogilvie and Assistant Coach Liz Wort will coach at this summer's camp as well. Camp counselors will primarily consist of current Duke student-athletes.
Campers will be able to experience campus life on one of the most beautiful college campuses in the nation. Campers will stay in air-conditioned double dorm rooms on Duke's gothic-style West Campus. Breakfast and lunch will be served in the main cafeteria (Great Hall) and dinners are catered at the track stadium each evening. All meals will be buffet style.
To reserve your spot, please submit a completed camp application and $100 non-refundable registration fee.
