Durham, N.C. ? The Duke women's team finished the 2007-08 season ranked No. 9 in the ITA Team Rankings after advancing to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
The final top-10 ranking was the 17th in 19 seasons for the women's team since 1990. The last time Duke finished ranked in the top-10 was in 2006 when they also were ranked ninth following a 20-8 season.
The Blue Devils posted a 20-5 record under head coach Jamie Ashworth, including a 9-2 mark in the ACC. It was the ninth time in 12 seasons that Ashworth has guided Duke to a 20-win season. The Blue Devils claimed 17 victories over ranked teams with two top-10 victories. They defeated No. 6 Florida, 4-3, on Feb. 15 and upset No. 2 Georgia Tech, 4-3, on March 22.
Duke made a run through the ACC Tournament before suffering a 4-3 loss to No. 25 Clemson in the finals. They also fell by a 4-3 count in the NCAA Round of 16 to No. 8 California, who went on to the national championship match against UCLA. The Blue Devils cruised through the first two round of the NCAA Tournament with a 4-0 win over Temple and a 4-1 victory against No. 24 William & Mary.
